And Jonathan had David reaffirm his oath out of love for him, because he loved him as he loved himself.
The thought
Jonathan had the throne coming to him. David was the threat to it. Every reason existed for Jonathan to stay quiet and let his dad handle it. Instead he warned David, made a plan to get him out, and then went back and defended him to a man who threw a spear at him for it. Jonathan gave up the thing he wanted most for a friend. That's the bar. Not "we hang out a lot." Not "we've been friends since third grade." Someone who chooses you when choosing you costs them something.
Think about it
What has a friendship in your life actually cost you? If the answer is nothing, is it a friendship or is it just proximity?
