The lie of the flesh says your appetite is proof you deserve something. The lie of the eyes says everyone else's highlight reel is the standard your actual life is failing to meet. The lie of pride says you matter exactly as much as people are impressed with you, which means your worth is a number other people get to control. All three feel completely true while you're inside them, which is exactly what makes them lies and not just bad advice. What does last, John says, is simpler than any of that: believing in Jesus, and loving people — and when you fail at either one this week, you're not standing there alone defending yourself, because you've got an advocate already speaking for you.
