Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.
The thought
Paul writes this in the middle of a chapter about sex — his point is that what you do with your body is not spiritually neutral, because your body isn't a container for the real you, it is you. That reframes both directions. It means your body isn't disposable, something to abuse or run into the ground or hand over cheaply. And it also means it isn't a project you have to perfect. It's not "make this thing impressive." It's "this thing was bought at a price, so don't treat it like it's worthless."
