Week 3
Day 1 / 3

Interrupt Yourself

Psalm 42:5

Why, my soul, are you downcast? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God.

The thought

Notice he doesn't say he feels fine. He's weeping a verse earlier. He's not faking it. But then he stops and does something almost nobody does — he talks back. He asks his own feelings a question instead of just accepting the answer they gave him. And then he redirects, not to "it'll work out," but to God specifically. I will yet praise him. Yet. Meaning: I still feel this, and I'm pointing my mind somewhere else anyway. That's not denial. That's the most honest thing in the whole psalm.

Think about it

What's the loudest thing your feelings have said to you this week? If you asked it is that actually true — what's the answer?
